About Us

Our Mission

  • Empower the Community: Provide hands-on training and mentoring in trades, engineering, and leadership.

  • Support Mental Health & Inclusion: Offer safe, inclusive spaces for people with disabilities, veterans, and those living with PTSD or other challenges.

  • Inspire & Educate: Work with local schools to teach practical skills such as welding, fabrication, electronics, landscaping, and railway operations.

  • Create a Family-Friendly Attraction: Build a miniature railway experience that brings families and friends together.

The Corio Bay Miniature Railway was established in September 2016 and is a registered Not-for-Profit charitable organization.

The club is made up of ex-servicemen and members of the public who share a passion for miniature railways and model engineering.

Our founding members came together with a shared vision to plan, build, and operate a dual-gauge (5 inch and 7¼ inch) passenger-carrying miniature railway and community park for the Geelong community.

Constructed over multiple stages by our charity members and volunteers the railway will include a workshop precinct for the storage and maintenance of locomotives and carriages, along with fabrication and repair facilities.
As the project progresses, the development will feature dual-gauge track, tunnels, bridges, a heritage-themed railway station, and a traditional signal box.

The surrounding parkland will be thoughtfully landscaped to create a welcoming and inclusive community space, incorporating native gardens, water features, indigenous food gardens, walking trails, playgrounds, a G scale garden railway, and a range of children’s activities.

Our members come from all ages and walks of life. Participation in the charity provides not only recreational enjoyment, but also opportunities to learn, share, and apply practical trade, engineering, and operational skills that are increasingly rare in modern life.

There truly is something for everyone from landscaping and construction to engineering and operations. Members are trained in a wide range of roles including ticket sales, station and signal box operations, and the driving and maintenance of internal combustion, electric, and steam locomotives.

Proceeds from fares collected during public operating days of the portable railway are used to administer the charity, fund the construction of the permanent railway, and maintain equipment.
A portion of these funds is also donated to support charitable and community groups within the Geelong region.

The hobby of miniature railways and model engineering offers immense enjoyment, personal satisfaction, and a strong sense of community.

The Corio Bay Miniature Railway warmly welcomes new members and volunteers who wish to contribute to the building, maintenance, and operation of this unique community asset.
